LVT in the news again - and Local Economy special issue

The last few days have seen several UK broadsheets give coverage to two policy papers up for discussion at the Lib Dems' Conference next month (17-21 Sep) both of which suggest that UK's Third Party plans to strengthen its policy on Land Value Taxation (LVT) - for both national ("Facing the Future" puts tax reform top of the priority list) and local government finance. Sunday Times (front page), Independent, Telegraph, Guardian have all covered this.

Meanwhile the international peer-reviewed journal Local Economy has invited PLRG's Dave & Heather Wetzel and Dr Tony Vickers to guest edit a special issue next year on Land Value Capture. A Call for Papers appeared in the last issue (repeated below) and the deadline for submission of abstracts is 30th September this year.

Call for Papers: Special Issue on Land Value Capture

The publishers of Local Economy have commissioned guest editors from the Professional Land Reform Group (www.plrg.org) to produce a special issue of the journal during 2012 on the subject of Land Value Capture (LVC). Various forms of LVC have been adopted by local, regional and national governments in every part of the world.  In 2006 the UN adopted the preferred form of LVC - Land Value Taxation (LVT) - as "in accord with Millennium Development Goal 7", which Goal includes "integrate the principles of sustainable development into country policies and programmes; reverse loss of environmental resources."

Abstracts for articles (Features, Viewpoints, In Perspective or Reviews) are called for, in the usual editorial style. Abstracts should be submitted to the Guest Editors by 30 September, deadline for papers will be 31 December 2011. Articles should illustrate, preferably by case studies, how significant use of LVC has resulted in benefits to the environment (built or natural), to local economies and/or to social cohesion and economic justice. Articles that express reasoned opposition to LVT in particular will also be welcomed.

The Coordinating Editor is Heather Wetzel [wetzel.plrg@gmail.com]. Co-editors are Dr Tony Vickers [tonyvickers@phonecoop.coop] and Dave Wetzel [davewetzel42@gmail.com]
