The Professional Land Reform Group will hold its first Annual General Meeting on Thursday 25th May at 6pm, at the usual location (Room G53) of London South Bank University. Enter via Borough Road '1'. The meeting is open to all but in order to vote you must have paid a £20 subscription for 2011. Payment (cash/cheques only) can be taken on the night.

The speaker, following the AGM business, will be Julian Pratt, whose book Stewardship Economy has the intriguing sub-title: "private property without private ownership". See www.stewardship.ac

Julian takes a refreshingly 'green' but market-based approach to our society's system of property rights, which (he says) is designed to appeal to "broadsheet readers" and not revolutionaries. He comes to very similar conclusions to those of Henry George, Leon Tolstoy and Winston Churchill - all supporters of free markets who believed the failure to capture for public benefit the 'economic rent' of Nature was a fatal flaw in political economy as practised.

Julian goes further than some in suggesting that the annual fee paid by 'stewards' of land for their exclusive rights could eventually completely replace conventional taxes and even provide an Environmental Dividend for citizens, equivalent to a Citizens Income.

Light refreshments will be available at the meeting. An agenda for the AGM will be sent to paid-up PLRG members and regular attendees at our meetings, or can be requested from the Hon Sec

PLRG is interested in seeking a sponsor for such meetings as this in future.
